02/20/24 Who Jesus Is

READING:

One-year plan: Leviticus 15-17, Mark 1:1-34

Two-year plan: Exodus 4, Matthew 16:13-28

———

Jesus is the Son of God. Mark, the writer of this second Gospel, announced that truth to begin his book (Mark 1:1). The Father proclaimed that truth as well at the baptism of His Son (Mark 1:11). Even the demons understood that truth, even if they had no intention of following Him (Mark 1:24). Jesus was the One through whom all things were made (John 1:2), and all of creation points to Him.

Jesus is the Son of God. Those words ought to be more than words to us; they ought to be words that change the way we live. For example . . .

  • We should want to obey Jesus more.
  • Our desire to please Him ought to be obvious.
  • Our choice in temptation ought to be to be obedient to Him.
  • We should be amazed by His grace.
  • We ought to be humbled by the fact that the Son of God loves us and redeems us.

Indeed, our response to the truth of who Jesus is ought to be talking about Him: “At once the news about him spread throughout the entire vicinity of Galilee” (Mark 1:28).

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How much does “who Jesus is” affect your life?

PRAYER: “Jesus, You are the Son of God. I honor You today.”
