———-
Jesus knew what would happen next. His disciples would find a donkey tied in the village—a donkey on which no one had ever ridden. They were to untie it and bring it to Jesus. Should anyone ask, “Why are you doing this?” they were to say that the Lord needed it.
To no surprise, that’s exactly what happened. The disciples did go there. They did find a donkey there. They did untie it. Others did ask what they were doing. The disciples responded just as Jesus had commanded, and the people did let the donkey go. No step in the process caught Jesus by surprise; in fact, no step in the process happened in any way other than what Jesus said would happen. He was sovereignly in control of the entire scenario.
As Jesus was making His way to Jerusalem—and ultimately to His death in Mark 15—He was no unwilling victim. He was not simply a religious teacher caught by surprise by the opposition around Him. No, He was the Son of God, fully in charge. He who knew what would happen when His disciples sought a donkey also knew that His predictions of His death and His resurrection would come true.
We can trust Him today.
