READING:
One-year plan: Numbers 26-27, Mark 12:13-44
Two-year plan: Exodus 26-27, Matthew 23:1-11
———-
- “The Lord replied to Moses, ‘Take Joshua son of Nun, a man who has the Spirit in him, and lay your hands on him.’” (Num 27:18)
- “Moses did as the Lord commanded him. He took Joshua, had him stand before the priest Eleazar and the entire community, laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the Lord had spoken through Moses.” (Num 27:22-23)
I am reminded today that God always has a plan. As Moses faced coming death, God had already raised up and prepared the next leader for the Hebrews: Joshua. He had been Moses’ assistant, and he was one of only two spies who challenged the people of God to move forward to take the Promised Land. He was an answer to Moses’ appeal to the Lord to appoint a new leader, a new shepherd to watch over the sheep. God’s plan would go on.
So it is today as well. Over the years of my ministry, I’ve learned over and over again that (1) God’s plan is bigger than I am, and (2) it will go on even after I’m gone. The end of one generation of leadership is not the end of God’s ongoing work. That truth ought to both encourage and humble us.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: In what ways have you seen God’s plan go on in your life?
PRAYER: “Father, thank You that You always have a plan.”
