———
The religious leaders of Jesus’ day knew Jesus had spoken against them when He spoke the parable of the vineyard owner. The tenant farmers in the story killed the owner’s son, and they brought judgment on themselves just like the religious leaders would do in seeking to kill Jesus. In fact, those leaders wanted to get their hands on Jesus then, but they would not do so because they feared the crowds. Still, they knew Jesus had spoken against them.
The Word of God just does that, you know. Somehow, a story in the Bible digs at your soul. Conviction pounds at your insides. Truth peels back the layers of your heart. The words of Jesus are the words the Spirit directs specifically to you at that moment. The question is what we do with those words: do we bow up against them like the religious leaders did, or do we hear them with hearts ready to listen?
I pray today it is the latter for you and me. I pray we would hear and respond in faith and obedience.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you listening to God through His Word today?
PRAYER: “Jesus, I want to honor You this day.”
