Eternal. Forever.
That’s a long, long, long time. So long, in fact, it never ends. I can’t even fully imagine it.
What I can do, though, is believe what Jesus said about those who follow Him—words that He spoke several times in today’s reading:
- “Don’t work for the food that perishes but for the food that lasts for eternal life” (John 6:27)
- “For this is the will of my Father: that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him will have eternal life” (John 6:40)
- “Truly I tell you, anyone who believes has eternal life” (John 6:47)
- “If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever” (John 6:51)
- “The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life” (John 6:54)
- “The one who eats this bread will live forever” (John 6:58)
We who follow Jesus will live forever. Amen.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you ever take eternal life for granted?
PRAYER: “God, thank You for the forever life You promise us.”
