Frankly, I’ve wondered that some days. Job did, too, and he expressed his anguish with honest and thorough words: “If I go east, he is not there, and if I go west, I cannot perceive him. When he is at work to the north, I cannot see him; when he turns south, I cannot find him” (Job 23:8-9). No matter what direction Job looked, he could not sense God’s presence. Maybe you’re there today.
If so, don’t miss what Job stated next: “Yet he knows the way I have taken; when he has tested me, I will emerge as pure gold” (Job 23:10). Even when he wondered where God was, Job trusted that the Lord was working His plan in Job’s life. Job’s issue was not that ongoing sin harmed his relationship with God–he had treasured God’s Word, kept it faithfully, and followed in God’s steps-v. 11-12); rather, it was that God was testing him. Job was convinced that, despite his present-tense struggle, he would come out of the test purified like pure gold.
If you’re struggling today the way that Job did, I’ve prayed for you this morning that you will come out of this test like gold.
thank you
