08/05/24 Listen to His Voice

READING:

One-year plan: Job 37-39, Acts 27

Two-year plan: Judges 12-13, Luke 12:41-53

———-

This week, we had a major storm that resulted in much water behind the fence in my back yard. We’ve had that water problem for years, so I easily get frustrated when it’s happened again. The storm irritated me rather than amazed me.

I doubt the heart of Job’s friend Elihu was entirely right when he spoke to Job about God’s power evident in storms, but he did verbalize words that have made me remember storms today:

Listen! Listen to the roar of his voice, to the rumbling that comes from his mouth.
He unleashes his lightning beneath the whole heaven and sends it to the ends of the earth.
After that comes the sound of his roar; he thunders with his majestic voice.
When his voice resounds, he holds nothing back.
God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.
He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’
  (Job 37:2-6)

Perhaps I need to slow down enough during the next storm to hear God’s voice in the thunder and see His power in the lightning. I need to remember that the rain and the snow move at His command. His majesty is so great that all I should do is worship.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you see God’s power in the storms?

DAILY PRAYER: “Almighty God, I praise You for Your power.”
