———

I sometimes have to remind myself of these truths, but they are important ones:

  • I am God’s child only because of His grace.
  • I am forgiven because of His atoning death and wooing Spirit.
  • I have a roof over my head, food on my table, and clothing on my back because of His care.
  • I get to do ministry only because of His divine choice to use an undeserving vessel.
  • I have been privileged to get extensive training because of His gift to me.
  • I have a Christian family because of His love.
  • I have peace in my heart because of His sovereignty.
  • I trust Him because of His faithfulness.
  • I have eternal life because of His promise.
  • I am who I am because of who He is.

As Paul reminded the Corinthians about themselves (and now applied to me), “It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption— in order that, as it is written: ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord’” (1 Cor 1:31).  When the story is fully about God, our grounds for boasting about ourselves disappear. He alone is worthy of praise.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How long has it been since you’ve considered all God’s blessings to you?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, let me boast in You alone.”
