09/19/24 Better than Gold

READING:

Two-year plan: 2 Samuel 13:21-14:33, Luke 24:1-21

———-

Even though I know better than to get focused on riches, it’s still easy for me to long for the perceived security that comes with dollars in the bank. Some of that tendency comes from an upbringing where finances were an issue, but some of it is also a lack of trust in God. In addition, I suspect it’s a reflection of living in a world where dollars are thought to be an indication of value and success.

On the other hand, the writer of Proverbs reminds us again in today’s reading that we need to seek wisdom. Indeed, wisdom is both costly and life-changing. It should matter to us more than silver or gold, and we need to hear and heed these words: “Accept my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is better than jewels, and nothing desirable can equal it” (Prov 8:10-11).

To live for the world’s “stuff” is simply unwise.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: What are you living for today?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, I seek wisdom from You.”

TOMORROW’S READINGS:

One-year plan: Proverbs 10-12, 2 Corinthians 5:16-7:16

Two-year plan: 2 Samuel 15, Luke 24:22-35
