READING:
One-year plan: Jeremiah 45-48, Hebrews 5-6
Two-year plan: 2 Kings 19, John 12:1-19
———-
Growing up, I was always amazed by people who could do impressions of others – especially when their actions and voice intonations were so remarkably like the “original” that it was hard to tell the difference. Perhaps you remember the name of Rich Little, who did some of the best impressions I had ever seen. I’ve read that he could do solid impressions of more than 200 people.
He comes to mind today because the writer of Hebrews calls his readers/listeners to be “imitators of those who through faith and endurance inherit the promises” (Heb 6:12). Perhaps the writer was referring to modeling lives after the faith heroes of the Old Testament (as in Hebrews 11), but several commentators assert that the writer was referring to contemporary models of faith among the readers. They must have had living examples of faith and patient endurance, and the writer of Hebrews wanted the readers to learn from them.
I wonder today how many of us have others we seek to imitate because they so walk with the Lord. More than that, though, I wonder if others look to us as models of faith; that is, I wonder if others choose to imitate us.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Would you want another believer to imitate all your life today?
DAILY PRAYER: “Father, I thank You for other believers who model faith and endurance for me.”
