Two-year plan: 1 Chronicles 1, John 13:36-14:11
———-
The point of this devotion today is quite simple: we are to teach the Word of God. The prophet Ezekiel heard that truth when God called him to proclaim the message He had given him . . .
- “whether they listen or refuse to listen—for they are a rebellious house” (Ezek 2:5)
- “whether they listen or refuse to listen, for they are rebellious” (Ezek 2:7)
- even though “the house of Israel will not want to listen to you” (Ezek 3:7)
- “whether they listen or refuse to listen” (Ezek 3:11)
The people of God were a rebellious people unwilling to listen, but the prophet had a job to do: “Tell them, ‘This is what the Lord God says’” (Ezek 3:11).
Our task as preachers is still the same. We are to speak the Word of God, even if others don’t want to listen. When the Word points out sin, we point out sin. When it judges idolatry, we speak against idolatry. When it speaks judgment, we speak judgment. Our responsibility is simply to proclaim the Word.
If you’re a pastor, commit yourself again to speak what God has spoken. If you’re not a pastor, pray for your pastor to do the same.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Is confronting people in their sin a difficult task for you?
DAILY PRAYER: “God, help me always to speak what You desire.”
