Two-year plan: 1 Chronicles 6:48-81, John 16:1-17:4
———-
Let your word “yes” be “yes” and your “no” be “no.”
That’s how Jesus instructed His followers (Matt 5:37), and it’s how James followed suit in directing his readers (Jas 5:12). Clearly, God expects integrity to mark our lives as His children; so obvious and consistent should our truthfulness be that an oath to verify it would be superfluous. Our word should be sufficient.
I read these words, and I cannot help but think about some folks who’ve been in life for years, but who have not once given me reason to question their words. Not one time. Not even for a second. Never.
I listen to them because I trust them; in fact, I want to hear their words because I know they come from hearts that are pure. These are also the preachers I want to hear because I know their lives back up their words – and I have no concern about pretense or hypocrisy.
That’s also the kind of person I trust all of us want to be.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Does your “yes” mean “yes” and your “no” mean “no”?
DAILY PRAYER: “God, let my life and my words always exhibit integrity.”
