12/31/24 “Come, Lord Jesus”

READING:

One-year plan: Zechariah 12-14, Malachi 1-4. Revelation 20-22

Two-year plan: 2 Chronicles 18:28-20:19, Acts 6

———-

NOTE: If you plan to read the Word with me again in 2025, I plan to read straight through the Bible this coming year, and I will particularly watch for prayer in the Scriptures as write these devotions. I will still include the reading for the two-year plan, too, if you are following that plan. I also plan to challenge my readers in joining me in memorizing two texts per month in 2025.

———-

It seems appropriate that we finish 2024 with the words in the end of the Scriptures: “Amen, come Lord Jesus!” (Rev 22:20). Another year has come and gone without the physical return of the Lord Jesus. Sin remains rampant. Division still marks our lives. Sickness hurts . . . still. Injustice still seems to rule. Death continues, and tears still flow. Should this day pass without Christ’s return, we will go to bed tonight still crying out with John, “Come, Lord Jesus!”

Here’s the good news, though: each day that passes brings us one day closer to His coming. Our responsibility is to plow forward for His glory, paying whatever price our faith may cost us, and keep our eyes toward the sky. Some day, the end will be just the beginning of eternity.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: What has the Lord taught you in 2024? Are you looking forward to His return?

DAILY PRAYER: “Amen, come Lord Jesus. Thank You, God, for one more year closer to that time.”

TOMORROW’S READINGS:

One-year plan: Genesis 1-4

Two-year plan: 2 Chronicles 20:20-21:20, Acts 7:1-16
