Two-year plan: 2 Chronicles 33:1-34:13, Acts 9:10-25
———-
Jacob was preparing to meet his brother Esau, but fear struck him because he had learned from his servants the size of Esau’s entourage coming to meet him. In his great distress, he did the right thing, though: he turned to God in prayer.
“God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, the Lord who said to me, ‘Go back to your land and to your family, and I will cause you to prosper,’I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. Indeed, I crossed over the Jordan with my staff, and now I have become two camps. Please rescue me from my brother Esau, for I am afraid of him; otherwise, he may come and attack me, the mothers, and their children. You have said, ‘I will cause you to prosper, and I will make your offspring like the sand of the sea, too numerous to be counted.’” (Gen 32:9-12)
Jacob recognized the relationship God had with Abraham and Isaac. He leaned into God’s promises of offspring even while he confessed he was not worthy of God’s kindness and faithfulness. His fears, though real, were not as strong as the promises God had given him. In fact, God’s promises are always stronger than our fears. We simply need to trust God who always fulfills His Word.
