03/13/25 The Lord Listened to a Man

READING:

One-year plan: Joshua 10-14

Two-year plan: Job 41, Acts 27:39-28:6

———

Today’s devotion will be shorter, but I trust no less important. It was quite a day in the story of Joshua when God made the sun stand still as He led His people to victory over the Amorites. Joshua had prayed for that to happen, and that’s what happened. The writer of Joshua then concludes, “There has been no day like it before or since, when the Lord listened to a man, because the Lord fought for Israel” (Josh 10:14). God had never responded quite that way to a man’s prayers before. He listened to a man, and He fought for Israel in a most miraculous way.

I’m halted today, though, not so much by the Hebrews’ victory, but by this simple truth: it’s incredible and marvelous that God listens to any of us when we pray.

None of us is worthy of His attention, yet He listens. All of us are sinners, yet He turns His ear to us. The God of eternity listens to a man—and that in and of itself is quite amazing!

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you amazed that God hears your prayers?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, I am filled with wonder that You hear me today.”

TOMORROW’S READINGS:

One-year plan: Joshua 15-18

Two-year plan: Job 412, Acts 28:7-16

MEMORIZATION VERSE (March 1-15):

“He is your glory and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen.” (Deut 10:21)
