04/03/25 Strength in the Lord

READING:

One-year plan: 1 Samuel 26-31

Two-year plan: Psalms 38-39, Romans 8:1-17

———-

The statement is both encouraging and convicting.

David and his forces arrived at the city of Ziklag, which, they learned, the Amalekites had attacked and burned. The enemies had even kidnapped the people of the city, perhaps in retaliation for previous raids David had carried out against them. When David’s forces saw the destruction and learned of the kidnappings, they “wept loudly until they had no strength left to weep” (1 Sam 30:4)—as you and I likely would have done.

The troops were so distraught over the loss of their families that they even considered stoning David. David surely felt alone, but here’s the basic, encouraging and convicting statement I hinted at earlier: “But David found strength in the Lord his God” (1 Sam 30:6). No matter what we face today, we can find our strength in the Lord. Indeed, His strength is still most evident in our weakness (2 Cor 12:10).

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you find your strength in God even in tough times?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, be my strength today.”
