One-year plan: 1 Kings 9-12
Two-year plan: Psalms 67-68, Romans 13
———-
Yesterday’s devotion focused on texts that began with the words, “May you hear in heaven. . . .” Today’s devotion focuses on God’s word in return—and, I can’t help but weep for just a moment. You see, the Word says today about God’s response to Solomon’s prayer:
“The Lord said to him: ‘I have heard your prayer and petition you have made before me’” (1 Kgs 9:3).
- The God who made everything heard him when he prayed.
- The God who called out His people listened to him.
- The God who rules sovereignly heard him.
- The God who demands obedience but who also forgives disobedience listened to his prayer.
- The God who would ultimately bring redemption through the death of His Son heard the verbalized words of Solomon.
- The God who has always reigned, who reigns now, and who will always reign heard him.
God almighty heard him – just like He does us when we pray. He hears you and me. Sinful and disobedient though we are at times, He hears our cries for forgiveness. He hears our pleas on behalf of others. He’s listening for our praises of Him, and He delights in those words. In fact, He wants to hear from us.
It’s all quite amazing, actually. God hears us.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: How amazed are you that God hears your prayers?
DAILY PRAYER: “Father, I can only kneel in Your presence, knowing You’re welcoming my words.”
