05/13/25 “Lord, Hear Us”

READING:

One-year plan: 2 Chronicles 1-6

Two-year plan: Psalm 107, 1 Corinthians 9:1-14

———

God almighty, who made all things, listens to us when we turn to Him in humble prayer. He wants us to be on speaking terms with Him, with no disobedience hindering our prayers. These truths are actually quite amazing. God hears us!

Listen, in fact, to some of Solomon’s ongoing requests for God to listen to the king’s prayers:

  • “Listen to your servant’s prayer and his petition, Lord my God, so that you may hear the cry and the prayer that your servant prays before you,” (2 Chron 6:19)
  • “. . . so that you may hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place. Hear the petitions of your servantand your people Israel, which they pray toward this place. May you hear in your dwelling place in heaven. May you hear and forgive.” (2 Chron 6:20-21)
  • “may you hear in heaven and act.” (2 Chron 6:23)
  • “may you hear in heaven” (2 Chron 6:25)
  • “may you hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants and your people Israel” (2 Chron 6:27)
  • “every prayer or petition that any person or that all your people Israel may have—they each know their own affliction and suffering—as they spread out their hands toward this temple, may you hear in heaven, your dwelling place” (2 Chron 6:29-30)

There are other similar statements, but I trust you understand my point. It seems to me that Solomon teaches us something here: there’s apparently a place to say as we pray, “Lord, may You hear my words now.” Indeed, Lord, do hear us now.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you ask God to hear you when you pray?

PRAYER: “Lord, may you hear in heaven and forgive the sin of your servants.” (2 Chron 6:27)
