———-
As I get older, I realize that my memory is not what it once was. I can usually figure things out, but it takes longer today than it did twenty years ago. In many cases, that’s just what happens as you get older—whether you like it or not.
Based on today’s reading, it seems the Hebrews had a problem with forgetfulness, too:
- “Our ancestors in Egypt did not grasp the significance of your wondrous works or remember your many acts of faithful love” (Psa 106:7)
- “They soon forgot his works and would not wait for his counsel.” (Psa 106:13)
- “They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt” (Psa 106:21)
Meanwhile, the text reminds us over and over again that God did not forget His people even though they had rebelled against Him, e.g.,: “When he heard their cry, he took note of their distress, remembered his covenant with them, and relented according to the abundance of his faithful love” (Psa 106:44-45). While His people seemed to forget who God is, God did not forget them. He kept His covenant promises to them.
I’m so grateful that God doesn’t forget me even when I seemingly have forgotten Him.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Has your relationship with Jesus been stronger in the past, or is it strongest now?
PRAYER: “I will fervently thank the Lord with my mouth; I will praise him in the presence of many.” (Psa 109:30)
