Evaluating our spiritual walk is always a wise move. In fact, it’s good to build regular evaluation into our lives so we halt any decline as soon as possible and instead push toward growth. Here are some positive signs of growth that should catch our attention:
- Your zeal for holiness has increased. In fact, your sensitivity to the Spirit’s conviction over your sin seems to be growing.
- You’ve started sharing the gospel with others again. When you’re compelled to tell others about Jesus, something is working in your spiritual walk.
- Your spiritual disciplines are becoming life-giving. You know you’re moving in a positive direction when you have a desire to hear more from God through His Word or speak more to Him through prayer.
- Prayer is particularly increasing. Prayer emphasizes relationship and dependence—both that matter more to us when our spiritual walk is growing.
- Your small group and/or worship attendance is strengthening. You push against any excuses to stay home, and you’re engaged when you are present.
- You turn to your pastors for guidance if/when you seriously question your beliefs. It’s not wrong to raise questions as you consider your faith; at the same time, though, it’s simply wise to seek input from others who can help you stay grounded.
- You move toward Christian relationships that keep you accountable to your walk. When we’re moving in the right direction, we want to be around anyone whose Christian walk convicts and challenges us.
- You are increasingly sensitized to sin around you. What formerly did not bother you because you didn’t consider the destructive nature of sin now concerns you more.
- Those who know you best know you’re growing. They may not know all that’s contributing to that growth, but they recognize that you’re different.
- You just know you’re going in the right direction. Nobody needs to convince you. In honesty–and with great humility–you just need to thank God for growing you.
