02/22/19 Tying Up the Strongman

READING: Leviticus 22-23, Mark 3:1-30

It didn’t even make sense. Jesus’ opponents said that He was casting out demons by the power of the devil – which would have meant that the devil would be driving out the devil. He would be defeating himself, thus destroying his own kingdom. His kingdom could not last if he did what Jesus’ opponents said he was doing.

No, that wasn’t what has happening. Rather, Jesus explained it this way: “But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house” (Mark 3:27). The One who was stronger—the One stronger than all strongmen—had come, and He had come to disarm the powers. It was not Satan casting out Satan; it was Jesus the Son of God doing that.

You and I have the privilege of being a disciple of this same Jesus. What a gift!

PRAYER: “Jesus, thank You for welcoming me into Your family. Thank You for defeating the enemy.”
