12/18/19 A Vast Multitude

READING: Joel 1-2, Revelation 6:7-7:17

I have the privilege of serving alongside cross-cultural workers who serve a missions-sending agency whose vision statement is: “our vision is a multitude from every language, people, tribe, and nation knowing and worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ.” That vision is based on Revelation 7:9, which paints this picture: “After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands.” This multitude was worshiping the Lord and crying out loudly, “Salvation belongs to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Rev 7:10).

Today, we have the responsibility of proclaiming the gospel to the nations so others would turn to Christ and become part of God’s family. We make disciples of all the nations, and Jesus promises to be with us along the way (Matt 28:18-20). We speak the good news, the Spirit of God works, and lives are never the same. Someday, followers from every tribe and tongue will resound with praise to their Creator and Redeemer. In the meantime, we obediently evangelize, trusting that God will thus use us to make disciples.

Indeed, perhaps God will use one of us to be the first person ever to share the name of Jesus with an unengaged, unreached people group somewhere in the world. What an amazing, gracious honor that would be!

PRAYER: “Use me, Lord, as an instrument to reach the nations.”
