05/08/20 Resurrection Reality

READING: 1 Samuel 25; 1 Chronicles 7; Acts 17

I’ve written before that I don’t worry about death. The promise of resurrection and eternal life is so real to me that I never give death a second thought. What I sometimes forget, consequently, is just how unusual the whole concept of resurrection is for much of the world.

I’m reminded of the world’s struggle regarding resurrection in today’s New Testament reading. As Paul spoke to the Athenians in the Areopagus, he pointed to the resurrection of Jesus as proof that He is the Messiah and Judge. Many of the Athenians couldn’t go there, though, and they began to ridicule the apostle. After all, how strange is it to imagine that a dead body can come to life again?  That just doesn’t happen.

But it did.

Jesus did rise from the dead.

He did defeat death.

And, He is the Lord who gives us life eternal.

I’m incredibly grateful today that God helped me to simply accept the resurrection as truth when I was a 13-year old new believer. As the Lord convinced my heart, I would have been among the Athenians who said to Paul, “We’d like to hear from you again about this” (Acts 17:32). I am a Christ follower only because of God’s grace that led me to believe.

PRAYER: “God, I praise You for the truth of resurrection. I pray for those around the world who don’t know You or the promise of eternal life.”
