08/06/20 Time with God

READING: Amos 4-6, Psalm 55, Matthew 14

Today’s New Testament reading reminds us that Jesus took time to hike the mountainside by Himself to pray. His situation was certainly different than ours, but He nevertheless shows us the importance of getting away from the work to pray. What a miracle it is . . .

To have time alone with God.

Just He and I, in conversation. My listening in wonder more than speaking.

My taking my needs to Him, and His reassuring me that He has it all under control.

My laying the burden of unsaved family and friends at His feet, and His reminding me that He’s still working in lives.

Praising Him for who He is, and knowing He delights in the praises of His people.

Thanking Him for grace.

Loving Him for allowing me to come to Him.

Amazed that He not only hears me, but He wants to hear from me.

Moving from there back into the work of ministry, renewed and refreshed.

That’s what time alone with God can do.

PRAYER: “God, I commit today to set aside more time with You.”
