READING: Numbers 27-29, Mark 12:13-44
Moses knew he would not get to enter the Promised Land. His disobedience would cost him that gift, but he nevertheless remained concerned about the people of God. In particular, he wanted to make sure they had a leader to take them the rest of the way into the Land. He did not want them to be “like sheep without a shepherd” (Num 27:17) as they faced the future.
As God always does, He had already chosen and raised up their next leader: “Joshua son of Nun, a man who has the Spirit in him” (Num 27:18). Moses laid hands on him, commissioned him, and would ultimately leave God’s people in his hands. God’s plan would continue, as it always does. The departure of one leader is not the end of the story.
I think about this truth today as I serve as interim pastor in a church here in Wake Forest. My role is to shepherd the sheep for now, even while trusting God has already lined up our next pastoral leader. God’s protective, guiding, sovereign hand gives us confidence as we press forward.
PRAYER: “God, thank You that You always have a plan You always keep.”
DAILY ACTION STEP: Please pray today for my church and others you know who are seeking a pastor.
