06/09/21 You Alone are God

READING: 2 Kings 19-21, John 12:1-26

The Assyrians, the enemies of God’s people, had been successful against the gods of other nations. Indeed, it seemed the gods of those nations were incapable of protecting their own people. After all, they were only wood and stone figurines created by human hands.

King Hezekiah, though, knew the God of the Hebrews was different. Listen to the king’s address to God: “Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth” (2 Kgs 19:15). The One who made all was the ruler over all—and the One who would defeat all His enemies. The Assyrians would not win; in fact, their own false gods could not protect their king from his own sons!

There truly is no one like our God – and we are wise to remember that truth and live accordingly. He alone is Lord.

PRAYER: “You alone, Lord, are God. Amen.”

DAILY ACTION STEP:  Turn from any false gods in your life today.

TOMORROW’S READING: 2 Kings 22-25, John 12:27-50
