07/22/21 Worshiping Anyway

READING: Job 1-3, Acts 17

Job was a “man of complete integrity” who was “the greatest man among all the people of the east” (Job 1:1, 3). That’s quite a reputation—and not only did the author make that statement about Job, but God also affirmed it in His assessment of Job as well. He walked with God faithfully, sacrificed for his children regularly, and maintained his witness before the world.

Still, though, God orchestrated events that would cost Job everything but his life. It was God who brought up Job’s name to Satan, and it was God who pulled the hedge down enough for Satan to attack. This most righteous man suffered greatly within the sovereign plan of a perfectly righteous God. What Job did, though, was most amazing to me:

  • “He fell to the ground and worshiped” (Job 1:20)
  • “Throughout all this Job did not sin or blame God for anything” (Job 1:22)
  • “Throughout all this Job did not sin in what he said” (Job 2:10)

He was indeed a man of integrity—and a man whose faith and trust challenge me deeply.

PRAYER: “Lord, I pray I would still trust You and worship You if I lost everything.”

DAILY ACTION STEP:  Evaluate your own faith. If you lost everything, how do you think you would respond?

TOMORROW’S READING:  Job 4-6, Acts 18
