09/22/21 Instead of Money

READING: Proverbs 7-9, 2 Corinthians 4-5

It’s sometimes hard to ignore all the world offers us. Just watch a commercial, and you get this sense: “You need this, so go get it. In fact, you deserve it.” Think about it – prosperity . . . popularity . . . positions . . . possessions. Gaining the temporary becomes more alluring than simply living with wisdom.

The writer of Proverbs reminds us again in today’s reading that we need to seek wisdom. Indeed, wisdom is both costly and life-changing. It should matter to us more than silver or gold, and we need to hear and heed these words: “Accept my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is better than jewels, and nothing desirable can equal it” (Prov 8:10-11).

It is simply unwise to live for this world’s stuff. May God help us!

PRAYER: “Father, show me today any area of my life where I focus too little on wisdom.”

DAILY ACTION STEP:  Write the words of Proverbs 8:10-11 on an index card, and read it several times throughout the day. .

TOMORROW’S READING:  Proverbs 10-13, 2 Corinthians 6-7
