10/22/21 Like No Other

READING: Isaiah 46-50, Colossians 3:18-4:18

The contrast is stark . . . and powerful . . . and, frankly, exciting. The false gods of Babylon (Bal and Nebo) were hardly potent. In fact, the people carried them around in festive processions as they worshipped gods who offered them nothing. So powerless were the gods that they became only a burden to animals that sometimes carried them around, too—and they simply could not save their worshippers from captivity. They were only a burden to the people who claimed them as gods.

The true God, on the other hand, takes care of His own people. He is not the God others carry around; He is the God who carries His children. He is their strength, the giver and sustainer of life. He who made His own bears them on His shoulders and rescues them when necessary. From their birth to their old age, He guards and guides them. He is almighty; indeed, as the prophet asks, how can we compare Him to any other? How could we ever consider anyone His equal?

This day, we need the reminder of these words: “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and no one is like me” (Isa 46:9). Amen.

PRAYER: “There is no one like You, God.”

DAILY ACTION STEP: Pray for people around the world who worship false gods who cannot save them.
