12/30/21 Only Temporary

READING: Zechariah 7-14, Revelation 20-21

To be honest, I’m tired of the devil seemingly winning the battle. I know he’s already defeated, but sometimes it just looks like he’s in control. I’m also fully aware that we’re responsible for our choices, but our battle against principalities and powers is still real (Eph 6).

I’m tired of the enemy’s clawing his way into families and messing with marriages. I’m tired of his capitalizing on sinfulness and creating great division in local churches. I’m tired of his holding people—even believers sometimes–in bondage to controlling sins. I’m tired of his magnifying defeat and despair and discouragement in folks I love. I’m tired of his delighting in leaders who make the story more about themselves than about God. I’m tired of his blinding non-believers I’m pleading with God to save.

I’m tired of him.

But, here’s what I know: despite appearances otherwise, Satan has already been bound, is being bound, and will ultimately be bound. He and his forces will be “thrown into the lake of burning sulfur” (Rev 20:10). Their victory now is only temporary, but their judgment will be eternal.

I’m still tired of him, but I’m not worried. He is a defeated foe.

PRAYER: “Father, remind me today that Satan is not winning.”

DAILY ACTION STEP: Pray for someone you know who seems to be under Satan’s thumb.

TOMORROW’S READING: Malachi 1-4, Revelation 22
