02/05/22 His Mighty Hand

READING: Exodus 13:1-15:27

I love it when the repetition of God’s Word reminds me of a truth I too often take for granted. Today, as I’ve read about the post-exodus events for the Hebrews, I have seen multiple times when God reminds us that He alone was the source of the Hebrews’ deliverance from Egypt:

  • “Today the Lord has brought you out by the power of his mighty hand.” (Exo 13:3)
  • “With a strong hand, the Lord rescued you from Egypt.” (Exo 13:9)
  • “With the power of his mighty hand, the Lord brought us out of Egypt, the place of our slavery.” (Exo 13:14)
  • “It is a reminder that the power of the Lord’s mighty hand brought us out of Egypt.” (Exo 13:16)
  • “That is how the Lord rescued Israel from the hand of the Egyptians that day. . . .When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the Lord had unleashed against the Egyptians, they were filled with awe before him.” (Exo 14:30-31)

Apart from a personal relationship with Christ, all of us are in bondage to sin. The only reason any of us is freed from this bondage is the Lord’s graciously saving us by His mighty hand. He rescued us when we could not rescue ourselves. He alone gets the glory!

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you ever take any of the glory for your salvation—even slightly?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “God, we have victory because of You. I praise You today for Your power.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Exodus 16:1-19:25
