7 Bible Verses that Will Give Me Pause this Week when Temptation Comes + 2 Verses of Great Hope

I know I will face temptation this week. When I do, I want to remember these truths about God’s watching over me. I need these reminders that I would be getting away with nothing if I were to choose to sin:

  1. Psalm 44:21 “ . . . wouldn’t God have found this out, since he knows the secrets of the heart?”
  2. Psalm 139:1-2  “You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.”
  3. Proverbs 5:21 “For his eyes watch over a man’s ways, and he observes all his steps. There is no darkness, no deep darkness, where evildoers can hide.”
  4. Proverbs 15:3 “The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, observing the wicked and the good.”
  5. Jeremiah 16:17 “. . . for my gaze takes in all their ways. They are not concealed from me, and their iniquity is not hidden from my sight.”
  6. Jeremiah 23:24 “’Can a person hide in secret places where I cannot see him?’” —the Lord’s declaration. ‘Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?’—the Lord’s declaration.”
  7. Hebrews 4:13 “No creature is hidden from him, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give an account.”

Here’s the good news, though: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Then, when the Lord looks into our lives and finds no malice there, He pays attention to the sound of our prayers (Psa 66:18-19). May this gracious God deliver us from the evil one this week!

As a pastor I am often tempted to let down my guard on Monday because the work of Sunday is behind me. Thanks for the reminder that we WILL face temptation and that I need to be ready.
