04/14/22 Singing Anyway

READING: 1 Samuel 17:32-19:17, Psalm 59, 1 Samuel 19:18-24

We are all sinners, even as the children of God. We’re fallen. So, too, are the people we’re trying to reach among our neighbors and the nations . . . as are the people we lead in churches. None of us can avoid or deny the fact that we’re still sinful people.

Sometimes, sinful people also turn on God’s people, even when we cannot identify anything we’ve done wrong. David faced that kind of serious opposition from Saul, who sent messengers to David’s house to kill him. David knew his enemies were after him “though I have not sinned or offended them. I have done nothing wrong” (Psa 59:3-4)—but the threats and accusations were nevertheless real.

We may not face opponents who want to kill us, but we might have to deal with others who wrongly accuse us or stand against us. In those times, we, like the psalmist, must trust God to bring judgment so the nations know His name—and we must sing of His name in the meantime. No matter who turns against us, He loves us with a steadfast love; no matter what false accusations come against us, we can still sing of His undying love in the morning! He is always our fortress and refuge.

I pray God will help you sing today, regardless of what you face.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you singing of God’s unfailing love today?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “Lord, give me a song to sing even if I face unwarranted opposition today.”

 TOMORROW’S READING: 1 Samuel 20:1-21:15, Psalm 34
