05/04/22 Knowing God Intimately

READING: 1 Chronicles 26:1-28:21

The challenge from the father to his son was clear. King David was preparing to turn over his reign to his son, Solomon. More specifically, he challenged him to build the temple God would not allow David to build. Solomon was to take the task seriously, “be strong, and do the work” (1 Chron 28:10).

To do God’s work, though, meant much more than simply having leadership skills. Solomon was to seek God and know Him intimately, meaning he was to have a personal, ongoing, deep relationship with the Father. He was to worship God and serve him wholly and willingly, loving him with his heart and mind. His commitment must be genuine, with no superficiality or pretense. After all, God “sees every heart and knows every plan and thought” (1 Chron 28:9). He would bless Solomon for his obedience, but He would also judge him should he choose to be disobedient. In the end, Solomon would complete the temple because God did not fail or forsake him.

We who follow Christ today must also serve God with all our heart, mind, and soul—with all our being. In Him, we find strength and courage. He is—and this truth should amaze us again—with us!

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you love God with your whole heart and a willing mind today?

TODAY’S PRAYER: “Father, I praise You that You grant me strength and courage.”

TOMORROW’S READING: 1 Chronicles 29:1-22, 1 Kings 1:1-53
