06/01/22 A Strong Tower

READING: Proverbs 17:1-19:29

It’s always fun to me when reading the Word reminds me of a hymn or praise chorus that is linked to the biblical text. That happened again today when I read Proverbs 18:10 – “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.” Amid a series of proverbs that speak of security, the writer makes it clear that genuine security is in God – whose very nature grants protection for those who turn to Him.

The one who trusts in the Lord runs to Him in confidence of His undying concern and His magnificent power and protection. In Him we always find our refuge, our place of safety set on high—so why would we not run to Him? Why would we choose to fight our battles in our own power?

I trust that no matter what we might face today, we will sing these words: “Blessed be the name of the Lord!”

PERSONAL REFLECTION:  Is the Lord your strong tower today?

DAILY PRAYER: “Help me, God, to run to You today.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Proverbs 20:1-22:16
