READING: Lamentations 2:1-4:22
There is a reason we do not perish. It’s not because we are so good. Nor is it because we have earned our way to victory. It’s not even because we call ourselves “Christians.”
We do not perish because God has loved us with a steadfast love – a love most evident on the cross.
As we have seen before, God is faithful to His people even when we are not faithful to Him. He honors His name even when we don’t. He extends mercy to us each day. He is our hope when we feel hopeless, our love when we feel unlovable, our delight when we seemingly find none. He is loyal even when we are not. His faithfulness to us is indeed great!
So, do these gifts of mercy and grace grant us permission to live as we choose? Not at all. We should never understand His covenant loyalty to be permission to sin; instead, His loyalty should instead compel us to be even more faithful to Him.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: When was the last time you strongly sensed God’s faithfulness?
DAILY PRAYER: “God, thank You for new mercies today.”
