09/06/22 Life-Giving Waters

READING: Ezekiel 47:1-48:35, Ezekiel 29:17-30:19, 2 Kings 25:27-30, Jeremiah 52:31-34

Today, I’m thirsty. Thirsty for more obvious evidence of God’s presence in my life. Thirsty for growing peace. Thirsty for answered prayer. Thirsty for direction. It seems, in fact, that some level of thirst marks our lives no matter how old we get. Until God calls us home into eternity, always there will be some longing in our heart. Those who are really only pilgrims and strangers in this world should expect nothing different.

But—and this is simply more of the beauty of the gospel—our God sends life-giving waters our way at just the right time. In Ezekiel’s vision of the waters proceeding from the sanctuary (thus, finding their source in God), what began as a trickle becomes a river of healing waters—such that the trees growing on the bank would not see their leaves wither nor their fruit fail. In God would be healing and salvation.

Some day, according to Revelation 22, we will honor God around the river of the waters of life. The curse will be ended, and night will be no more. In the meantime, we thirst.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you thirsty for God today?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, thank You for giving us life-giving waters.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Daniel 7:1-8:27, Daniel 5:1-31
