10/06/21 “Peace, Be Still”

READING: Matthew 13:10-23, Luke 8:9-18, Mark 4:21-29, Matthew 13:24-30, Mark 4:30-34, Matthew 13:31-52, Mark 4:35-41, Matthew 8:23-27, Luke 8:22-25

He speaks, and the waves halt.

He commands, and the wind ceases.

He orders, and the storm becomes peace.

His disciples, however, still wondered why He seemingly didn’t care when they found themselves in the middle of a raging storm. They should have known Him better by that point in His ministry, but they still didn’t know just how mighty He was. The Son of God slept in the boat, yet the disciples still feared.

We’re not much different from the disciples. We struggle trusting Him, too. You see, it’s one thing to tell others they need to trust God when things seem out of control; it’s another thing, though, when it’s our boat overtaken by the waves. What we might tell others to do in faith we fail to do because of fear.

It’s then that He might ask us the same question He asked His disciples, “Where is your faith?” May God grant us grace to trust Him no matter we face today.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you live more by fear or faith?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, help me to trust You even when it seems You’re sleeping.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Mark 5:1-20, Matthew 8:28-34, Luke 8:26-39, Mark 5:21-43, Matthew 9:18-26, Luke 8:40-56
