11/11/22 Praying

READING: Acts 10:1-12:5

Prayer is the most difficult spiritual discipline to develop, but it matters significantly in our spiritual walk. Prayer says both, “God, I love You” and “God, I need You.”

In today’s reading, Cornelius was a man of prayer—one who “always prayed to God” (Acts 10:2). It was during prayer he received his vision to go get Peter. Peter was also praying, his going to the rooftop about noon for that purpose. In the first case, God directed Cornelius to find Peter; in the latter case, God taught Peter that the gospel was for all people, including Gentiles like Cornelius. The disciple learned of the extent of grace, and the centurion and his family experienced this grace—all happening against the backdrop of praying people.

That’s what prayer does: it slows us down, turns our attention to God, and puts us in a place for God to work in and through us. Prayerful people experience the power and presence of God.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How much do you pray?

DAILY PRAYER: “Lord, I again ask You to teach me to pray.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Acts 12:6-14:20
