11/15/22 Planning and Trusting

READING: Acts 15:22-17:15

In today’s reading, the apostle Paul sensed God’s leading in two different directions. On one hand, the Spirit somehow convicted Paul and his team—perhaps through a prophet, a vision, or some inner compulsion—not to preach the word in Asia or to go to Bithynia. On the other hand, an unidentified man from Macedonia came to Paul in a night dream and pleaded with him to come to that region. Paul was so convinced the word was from the Lord that he made plans to set out in that direction.

The apostle and his team made strategic plans to do their ministry, but they also remained sensitive to the Spirit’s leading as they pressed into the future. That’s the tension all of us live with: prayerfully making plans to do God’s work, while also obediently listening to the Spirit as He leads along the way.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: How much do you listen obediently for the Spirit’s guiding?

DAILY PRAYER: “Father, I want to follow You every step of the way. Direct me.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Acts 17:16-18:3, 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5:11
