02/07/23 Separated

READING: Leviticus 14-15

Understanding the rules God gave in today’s reading is not easy. We recurrently read the words “unclean” and “abhorrent” in these verses, so these issues must have been important to a holy God. Through the use of these unusual rules for His people, God was reminding them that holiness and cleanness really did matter—especially when the people were entering the Tabernacle. They could not come before Him in uncleanness.

Indeed, the work of Moses and Aaron was to “keep the sons of Israel separated from their uncleanness” (Lev 15:31). Their challenge was to help the people walk as they must—including knowing proper steps to deal with uncleanness—to be in His presence. The people were to be separate, and their leaders were to help them get there.

Today, we can enter God’s presence only because Jesus Christ died for us and now lives within us. He makes us clean, and thus makes it possible to be with God, through His shed blood. We can—and must—celebrate this truth together today. We must celebrate with those God has given to teach us these truths.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Who in your life most encourages you to be godly?

DAILY PRAYER: “God, thank You for those who challenge us to walk in purity.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Leviticus 16-18
