READING: 1 Kings 1-2
At the risk of sounding morbid today, I wonder how my spiritual heroes might challenge me on their deathbeds. I suspect they would emphasize what matters most to them. At least one would say, “Never miss an opportunity to tell others about Jesus.” Another would likely say, “Always have a sweetheart love for Jesus.” One might encourage me, “Make sure Pam always knows how much she means to you.” Perhaps another would push me, “Preach the Word” – not unlike how Paul charged Timothy in 2 Timothy 4:2.
I think about these things today after reading David’s words to his son, Solomon, as the king approached death: “Keep your obligation to the Lord your God to walk in his ways and to keep his statutes, commands, ordinances, and decrees” (1 Kgs 2:3). David made sure Solomon heard his challenge to walk faithfully before God with all his heart and soul. Maybe you and I need that same kind of charge today.
This day, I pray I will keep my obligations to the Lord.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you committed to walking faithfully with God today?
DAILY PRAYER: “Father, help me to keep my obligations to You today.”
