READING: 1 Kings 3-6
Again today, the repetition of the Scriptures catches my attention:
- “I [God] will give you [Solomon] a wise and understanding heart, so that there has never been anyone like you before and never will be again.” (1 Kgs 3:12)
- “. . . they stood in awe of the king because they saw that God’s wisdom was in him to carry out justice.” (1 Kgs 3:28)
- “God gave Solomon wisdom, very great insight, and understanding as vast as the sand on the seashore.Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. He was wiser than anyone. . . .” (1 Kgs 4:29-31)
- “Emissaries of all peoples, sent by every king on earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom.” (1 Kgs 4:34)
- “The Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he had promised him.” (1 Kgs 5:12)
As the world gets crazier and crazier, we need the wisdom of God to lead His people (as, indeed, we have always needed). It is right—necessary, even—for us to request it (James 1:5). And, it is wisest if we seek that wisdom before we make a mess of things on our own.
PERSONAL REFLECTION: How quickly do you ask the Lord for wisdom?
DAILY PRAYER: “Father, give me wisdom to follow You today.”
