05/12/23 Exile

READING: 2 Kings 24-25, 1 Chronicles 1

The people had crossed the line. God had been undeniably patient—and He would be incredibly gracious toward His people in the future—but they had still crossed a line. Judgment was no longer just a prophecy; it was here. The Babylonians would overtake Jerusalem not because of their superior strength, but because of God’s judgment: “Because of the Lord’s anger, it came to the point in Jerusalem and Judah that he finally banished them from his presence” (2 Kgs 24:20).

The enemy burned the temple in addition to the king’s palace and the houses, tore down the walls of Jerusalem, and deported many of the remaining people in the city. The day of judgment had come. Sadness surely reigned when “Judah went into exile from its land” (2 Kgs 25:21)

Here’s the bottom line today: God expects His people to follow Him faithfully, and He holds them accountable when they do not. We need to hear this “bottom line” over and over again.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you living in rebellion against God?

DAILY PRAYER: “Almighty One, forgive me for my sin. Thank You for Your patience with me.”
