06/15/23 God’s Love

READING: Job 2-8

Yesterday, we noted that Job worshiped God anyway despite all that he lost under Satanic onslaught. In today’s text, he grieved both the night of his conception and the day of his birth. He even came to the place of wishing the dates were not on the calendar. Little made sense to Job; in his words, “I cannot relax or be calm; I have no rest, for turmoil has come” (Job 3:26). In fact, one commentator has labeled Job 3 as “one of the most depressing chapters in the Bible.”*

Job’s story is a reminder that it’s possible to be an upright man who fears God, who worships in struggle, and yet who still wrestles with faith. Our trust can be tainted with questions, our faith mixed with despair, our hope weakened by hopelessness—and we still be seeking to follow God. In the midst of these realities, here’s something I’m grateful for: God loves us just as much in our struggles as He does in our victories. He is big enough to handle our questions.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you facing any such struggles today?

DAILY PRAYER: “Help me, Father, to bring all my questions to You.”

TOMORROW’S READING: Job 9-15
