READING: Psalms 45-55

If life is hard for you today, I pray this devotion will encourage you.

In the midst of his enemies, the psalmist still had hope. In fact, he penned these words, “God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my life” (Psa 54:4). Some scholars note that the word translated “helper” could also mean “ally”; if so, the Word could then say, “God is always on my side.” No matter what the psalmist might have been facing, he had sweet confidence when he trusted the Lord.

Psalm 55 is a similar recounting of the psalmist’s expressing his frustrations about enemies (including one who had been a close friend) and seeking God’s presence. Fear had gripped him, so he turned to the Lord who reigned over all. God’s answer?  “But I call to God, and the Lord will save me. I complain and groan morning, noon, and night, and he hears my voice” (Psa 55:16-17).

The Lord is on our side. He hears us when we pray. Amen.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Do you quickly take your concerns to the Lord, believing He will hear?
