07/31/23 Hidden from God?

READING: Isaiah 26-30

God sees all things. No matter to what great lengths someone may go to hide something from God, no one succeeds at this task. Those who think they are getting away with something in the dark will discover otherwise; their thinking is only, according to Isaiah, upside-down, wrong-way thinking that assumes the potter and the clay are somehow equal.

Apparently, some of the leaders in Isaiah’s day had secretly planned to ally with Egypt against Assyria, and they assumed they could hide that decision from God and His prophet (Isa 29:15). Such an assumption would prove foolish, indeed, for the sovereign God sees all things and accomplishes all He wills. In the strong words of Matthew Henry, “See what foolish fruitless pains sinners take in their sinful ways; they seek deep, they sink deep, to hide their counsel from the Lord, who sits in heaven and laughs at them.”* We, too, are sometimes so foolish.

PERSONAL REFLECTION: Are you assuming you are hiding anything from God today?

PRAYER: “God, remind me every day that You see all things.”

TOMORROW’S READING:  Isaiah 31-36
