03/29/24 What If?

READING:

One-year plan: Deuteronomy 29-31, Luke 4:31-5:11

Two-year plan: Leviticus 5-6, Matthew 26:57-75

Moses realized he was getting old, and he knew he could not remain the leader of the Hebrews. More specifically, though, God made reality clear for him: “The Lord said to Moses, ‘The time of your death is now approaching’” (Deut 31:14). And, God repeated that word: “The Lord said to Moses, ‘You are about to rest with your ancestors’” (Deut 31:16). In preparation for his death, Moses set apart Joshua to be the next leader.

Here’s what I’m wondering about today: what would I do today if the Lord told me “your death is now approaching”? Sure, my death is always a possibility at any moment, but what would I focus on if I knew for a fact the time was short? I think I would want to seek forgiveness from God and others where needed. I hope I would quickly make sure I’d told my loved ones about Jesus. On the other hand, I pray I would have been so faithful to God that I would not need to change much at all.

What if you knew for certain this week is your last week here on earth? What would you change?

PERSONAL REFLECTION: What would you do if you had one remaining week here?

PRAYER: “God, teach me to follow You faithfully every moment of every day.”

MONDAY’S READINGS:
