03/16/18 Moses Died

READING: Deuteronomy 31-34

“So Moses the servant of the Lord died.”

Deuteronomy 34:5

“So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab . . .” (Deut 34:5). That’s just one verse, but it says much we need to consider.

Moses was God’s man, called from a burning bush (Exo. 3). . . . and still he died.

He was a man filled with humility (Num. 12:3) . . . and still he died.

He had been God’s spokesperson for the nation . . . and still he died.

Kings die. Presidents die. Warriors die. Heroes die. No matter who we are—including if we were the leader of the Hebrews—we die. We are still sinners who displease God and who still deserve His judgment. We cannot fall back on our successes, nor can we work toward enough achievements to gain His approval in the future. All of us have indeed sinned and consequently earned separation from God in an eternal hell. Were it not for God’s willingness to forgive us through His Son, we would be in deep trouble.

That last line is a truth we must not forget.

ACTION STEPS:

  • Meditate on the truth of the gospel today. Don’t take it for granted.
  • Thank God that though we die, we will live again.

PRAYER: “God, I know I will die if You tarry Your return. Thank You for the eternal hope You give.”

TOMORROW’S READING:  Joshua 1-2, Psalm 105
