12/26/18 God’s Faithfulness

READING: Psalm 37:25

“. . . I have not seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread.”

Psalm 37:25

I love talking to older believers (of which, I must remember, I am one . . .) simply to listen to their testimonies. It’s a lot of fun to hear the stories of times when life tested them yet God’s grace and presence were apparent. They speak graciously about their struggles, and they seldom miss an opportunity to glorify God. Across the board, they would say with the psalmist what he said about his own experiences: “I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned or his children begging for bread” (Psalm 37:25).

That is not to say that he never saw the righteous deal with life issues, of course. The wicked continually stood against the righteous, and it might seem they were prospering in the immediate. What the psalmist knew, though, was that God never let His children down. God may choose to take His time in rescuing His own—and His method of rescue may be an unexpected one—but He is always, always, always trustworthy.

When I consider His undying faithfulness to us, it’s easy to want to be faithful to Him. May this year end in obedience, and may 2019 bring an even greater desire to please Him.

ACTION STEPS:

  • Consider God’s faithfulness to you this past year. Thank Him.
  • If you are struggling this year, trust God through it all.

PRAYER: “You are a gracious, faithful God. Thank You for never forsaking us.”

TOMORROW’S READING:  Mark 4-5
